In Seano there is one of the largest museum parks in Europe dedicated to a single artist: an interesting and culturally advanced  urban planning solution. Mappa del Parco Museo di Seano
The museum park “Quinto Martini” was inaugurated in 1988, when the artist (born in Seano) was still alive: he died in 1990, at the age of 82. Perfectly placed in the picturesque natural setting of the Carmignano hills in a green open space. Crossed by a stream at the far south of the town, the Park (designed by Ettore Chelazzi) also wants to be a place of life and meeting, a large square for different communal activities. It covers nearly 32,000 square meters and includes 36 bronze sculptures created between 1931 and 1988 and cast by the artist. An ideal path made of moments of eternity, with rural scenes and real life. Here people can walk for the recreation of the body and spirit. This is also an over fifty year long synthesis of artistic research. The park, as Chelazzi wrote, is in fact the recovery of urban space “a field to be used by the community,” which re-proposes “the distant hills as a place for work and culture” and giving “spaces for recreation, physical exercise  and a relationship with the arts. “Primarily a sculptor and painter, Quinto Martini was introduced to the arts   by Ardengo Soffici, of which he was a student and friend. He collaborated with several newspapers and periodicals and attended the Gabinetto Viesseux in Florence, where he befriended with the most culturally vibrant Tuscan and Italian personalities of the time. Quinto Marini is definitely one of the most representative artists of the twentieth century Italian sculpture scene. The Museum Park “Quinto Martini” is always open. (Wf)
