On the band of the wines of Carmignano is a date: 1716, it marks the birth of the consortium that assembles the winemakers from Carmignano, or rather of the congregation that was to check for compliance with the rules for the production of wines of Carmignano at that time already set in a regulation bearing the signature of Cosimo III de Medici. In Tuscany only three other wines of that time, can boast as much.
The consortium of the wines of Carmignano was founded then in the ’30s of the last century ,the ancient Medici Doc was incorporated in the Chianti Montalbano DOC. The rebirth and return to the ancient name, which was a long and arduous conquest, took place in the second half of the 60s. A fundamental contribution to the recovery of this historical-territorial identity, also supported by oenologist Veronelli, arrived from Ugo Contini Bonacossi of the Estate of Capezzana, along with Cianchi of Poggiolo  and Guido Lenzi at the time mayor of Carmignano.
In 1975 the Carmignano DOC was finally recognised, which was retroactive for wine aged until the 1969 vintage. In 1990 also the DOCG arrived and it was retroactive to 1988.
The number of producers who are part of the consortium have varied over the years, but they’ve never been less than a dozen, including big and small.
